WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
We are seeking an experienced Head of Marketing (12-month maternity cover) to lead a team of eight marketing and content professionals within our UK eCommerce portfolio. This includes flagship exhibitions such as eCommerce Expo, Technology for Marketing, and Parcel & Post Expo, as well as the UK eCommerce Association (IMRG) — a membership body connecting UK retailers and solution providers through in-person and virtual events, research, and industry insights.
Reporting to the Portfolio Managing Director, you will deliver strong marketing performance to attract visitors, exhibitors, and sponsors. You will oversee marketing and conference content strategies, empower your team to succeed, and collaborate with central teams on data and technology best practices.
The ideal candidate will bring a proven background in B2B events marketing and content, combining strong leadership skills with a hands-on, results-driven approach.
THE ROLE:
Audience Engagement & Delivery Against Targets
- Lead and support teams in planning and executing high-impact show-cycle campaigns to meet audience growth targets.
- Oversee marketing communication plans across all events, balancing strategic planning with agility to adapt to performance.
- Develop and deliver a year-round audience engagement strategy using content, show outputs, and database campaigns.
- Launch new onsite features and content initiatives to improve attendee experience and engagement.
Maximising the Use of Technology
- Work closely with the central digital team to optimise the tech stack, including HubSpot (marketing automation), the show app, CMS, and other platforms.
- Set up effective engagement, conversion, automation, and reporting, ensuring the team is trained and confident in using each tool.
- Proactively identify and resolve issues such as deliverability challenges or underperformance.
Commercial Revenue & Lead Generation
- Deliver high-impact exhibitor and sponsorship campaigns across email, organic, and paid media.
- Monitor and optimise the marketing leads tracker to secure year-on-year growth in lead volume and conversion.
- Align marketing and sales teams on value propositions, targeting, and conversion strategies to maximise revenue.
Parcel & Post Expo Relocation Campaign
- Lead the marketing strategy for relocating Parcel & Post Expo to London, alongside eCommerce Expo and Technology for Marketing.
- Refresh the show’s visual identity and value proposition, highlighting synergies across the three events.
- Coordinate cross-promotion campaigns to expand reach and audience quality.
- Conduct a detailed database audit to ensure accurate and engaged targeting.
- Oversee the registration process to deliver the right attendees, and smooth experience for exhibitors and sponsors.
Content & Conference Programme Oversight
- Lead in-house and freelance content managers and conference producers to recruit speakers and deliver high-quality content programmes for eCommerce Expo, Technology for Marketing, Parcel & Post Expo, and IMRG’s Growth Summit.
- Ensure conference content reflects audience feedback, industry insights, and market trends.
Overseeing IMRG Marketing
- Act as a bridge between IMRG, expo teams, and central functions to deliver cross-promotional and cross-brand opportunities.
- Line-manage and mentor two IMRG marketing team members, supporting delivery of attendee targets and lead generation for in-person and virtual events.
- Maintain high standards of marketing copy, visuals, campaign planning and online presence.
- Collaborate with IMRG Strategy, Insights, and Retail teams to translate benchmarking data and insights into compelling and differentiated marketing strategies and messages.
Budget Oversight
- Manage the marketing budget to ensure efficiency, accurate forecasting, and optimised spend.
- Work closely with Finance, the Event Directors and the Managing director on reporting and forecasting.
ABOUT YOU:
- B2B Events Experience – Proven track record as a Head of Marketing, delivering successful campaigns and meeting KPIs for trade shows and conferences.
- Leadership & People Skills – Experienced in mentoring, empowering, and constructively challenging teams.
- Communication & Collaboration – Excellent at building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders across the portfolio and wider business.
- Digital & Technical Expertise – Skilled in marketing technology and data, with up-to-date knowledge of best practices.
- Organisation & Project Management – Highly organised, able to manage multiple campaigns, deadlines, and priorities.
- Copywriting & Design – Strong ability to create clear, compelling copy and visuals that resonate with the target audience.
